The Lightspeed N-litter

DSC05868 DSC05872

Die kleinen N’s (LS Darjeeling X Cruise of My Heart) werden jetzt eineinhalb Jahre alt!

Nora at Caninature

Little Nora, Lightspeed Narnia, has just come back from a romantic weekend in France, where we visited Jim at Caninature. Jim is a wonderful boy with a great pedigree, excellent health results, a fun and happy personality and great working ability! He is also very handsome and stylish, so he was very easy to take a lot of good pictures of!

Nora liked Jim at once and she enjoyed her stay in France a lot! For anyone that is considering a sheepdog holiday I can really recommend the Caninature-center, located 80 km east of Paris.

You will have access to many different fields, a lot of sheep, and training possibilities with or without coaching! There is a charming guest house with everything one needs! Thanks to Sabine Ehlers for a very nice time we had in France! We would love to come back!!

At Caninature there is also a whole little family of Jim-children to be seen! All of them are easy-to-handle, happy, fun, stylish, just a lovely bunch of young energetic Border Collies, that make you happy when you watch them! 🙂 Some Jim-children I took pictures of at work:

So fingers crossed that the mating was successful! If all goes well, little Lightspeed O’s should be born around the middle of March 2016.

Lightspeed Lotus Leaf, a half-sister of the M-litter was a wonderful nurse and play-mate for the pups! She had such fun jumping into (and out of) the puppy pen to teach her favorite pups (mostly Mo and Mireille) her best tricks!! 🙂

This smart brown girl is Lightspeed Mireille. She will work Gotland sheep in Germany.

Big and peacefull Lightspeed Moccacino, Mo, has no chance against his small but ferocious sister, Lightspeed Mirabell! We call her black-belt-Mirabell!! 🙂 She will be a trialling sheepdog in Italy.

Mirabell won, of course!!! 🙂

And this lovely boy is Lightspeed Mastermind (Cody).

And this brown boy is Lightspeed Mithril, who has moved to Germany to be the best friend of Flyte’s son Moon.

The puppis were very active, very inerested in people, very open for new things, and they would even retrieve nearly perfectly, nearly always! 😉

Because we liked the M-litter so much, Wolfgang decided to mate his Darla with their father Cruise, too. Puppies are expected around the middle of June 2014. We would both like to keep a pup from that combination!

Spring trials and training

Wolfgang was invited to judge a sheepdog trial in far-away Poland on the Easter weekend 2014. As we have only very few trials in Austria this year, that was an excellent option for me and my dogs to compet in a nice Open trial again!!!

I was very impressed by the standard of the Polish dogs. The Polish sheepdog society has only been working for half a year or so, but they have held a trial a year and a few sheepdog clinics in Poland for about seven years. It is quite impressive, how well they have learnt to handle and train their dogs with so little access to professional help and training tips!! The dogs are trained with beautiful pacing, excellent stops on their feet, and they dont need to be shouted at. They listen very well to soft voice of whistle commands!

Poland has such ideal landscape for sheepdog trialling! If the people and dogs keep up their great work, this may be the rise of a great new sheepdog nation!!!

DSC07107DSC07108 DSC07104 DSC07114 DSC07115 DSC07113

Marta Chmiel had organized the trial. She owns the beautiful training center, that was originally built for the keeping of horses.

She breeds her working dogs herself, travelling as far as necessary to get her bitches to the best stud dogs. And she trains them very, very well, too!!

This dog belongs to the president of the Polish sheepdog society.

The black dog on the right came third in trial class 3.

DSC07373DSC07463 DSC07140

The trial field was very flat. So flat indeed, that the handler needed a little ladder to stand on in order to see the sheep at the other side of the field at all. Being able to see the dog at the lift was not an option. You had to deduce the position of the dog from the reaction of the sheep.

The sheep worked well, but were mostly a bit on the slow side. The most careful workers among the Polish ran out of time before they got them into the pen.

DSC07220 DSC07222 DSC07224DSC07205 DSC07259 DSC07263 DSC07341 DSC07342

My dogs did very well in the trial. They are used to having to push sheep, and it suits them well. So Flyte was able to win the trial with two solid runs with 83 and 85 points.

Julie could have won, but in the second run she got a home-running sheep that would start a sprint for the home pen whenever she got the chance- So Julie had to do a lot of extra outruns to retrieve the panicky creature and it cost her a lot of drive points, allthough it couldnt have been done better. She was the secret star of the day, as everyone commented about how calmly and coolly she handled the extra trouble. As she is nine and a half years already, I am also very happy that her condition was still good enough for her to finish the whole parcours in spite of running three times the original drive distance! She really is a good girl, my old Julie!!

DSC07142  DSC07150  DSC07178 DSC07196 DSC07394 DSC07435DSC07231DSC07409

Little Guin did very well in Open Class, two. She earned 77 and 18 points respectively and was placed fourth. I am very proud of my little girl!

We had a very welcome visitor just before Easter! 12 year old Julian had come to visit with his 9 month old Click, a son of Lightspeed Fire Flyte and Isabeau Dajavera. Click is already a very well-developed and strong boy. He has a lovely friendly and happy character.

Julian is very interested in training his dog, so we did some basic Obedience, play-games and of course, we started Click on sheep. They both learnt so fast, it was a real pleasure to work with them! I hope they find good trainers to take them further on at home!!

DSC06841 DSC06859 DSC06860 DSC06870 DSC06872 DSC06874

There is a little video of Julian and his lovely Click working sheep on their third day of training! I think they did very well!!

DSC06906 DSC06911 DSC06912 DSC06914 DSC06919  DSC06930

A class 1 and class 2 trial was held in Saalfelden on the 12th of April 2014. The sheep proved rather testing for the beginner dogs. When a little mistake was made, one of the two big ewes in the group would turn upon the dog and refuse to cooperate any longer. Usually the trial was finished when that happened.

We are very proud to tell that young Lightspeed Kerryglen (Kerry) won class 1 with two excellent runs. He worked the sheep with respect and excellent manners, and they rewarded him with perfect cooperation!! Well done, Kerry and Kerstin!!! Kerry is a nearly two year old son of Lightspeed Darjeeling (Darla) and Serge v. d. Zweep’s Gary.

DSC07032 DSC07036 DSC07045 DSC07047 DSC07050 DSC07059

Little Leaf  (Lightspeed Lotus Leaf) likes a good fight with the sheep at the moment. So in of her two runs, she got into unresolvable troubles with a big ewe and couldnt finish her run. But she only needs more training. She is a bold little girl and needs to be shown that sometimes you have to fight less to win more! 😉

The Lightspeed M’s are here!!

On the 31st of January 2014 the Lightspeed-M-litter was born.

The mother is Lightspeed Guinneveere, full sister to Lightspeed Glenfiddich, who was 7th in the Continental finals in 2013, daughter of Bobby Dalziel’s Supreme Champion Joe and my four times Continental team member Lady Julie.

The father is Samuele Manzi’s friendly tricolor dog Cruise of my Heart, who is in the Italian World Trial and Continental Team and is prominent in Italian Open class trials. Cruise is a grandson of Toddy Lambe’s red/tri Supreme Champion Craig.

Both parents are HD-, ED- and OCD-free, ophthalmologically free of eye diseases in Nov/2013. Guin is CEA carrier, Cruise is CEA normal.

There are five pups in the M-litter. Three black and white ones and a brown boy and a brown, possibly brown/tri girl.

All puppies are spoken for.

This is the firstborn, a strong brown and white male that I call Mastermind.

This black and white girl I call Medici, and she will move to Italy to have a wonderful trialling career.

This  classically marked boy I call Masterclass. He is reserved.

And his dark brother Man in Black is reserved, too.

And this is lean and slim Mahogony. On the portrait to the right you can guess yourself, if she will have tan markings. I think I see some light brown over her eyes.

Guin is very happy with her lovely litter! 🙂

This is daddy Cruise:

New Year training with the L’s

Over New Year 2013/14 we had the pleasure of hosting a sheepdog clinic with Susanne Lejuez, the owner and trainer of Eryri Jaff. It was really great having her here, we had lots of fun and learnt a lot from her consequent but allways fair way of handling sheepdogs. I can warmly recommend her as a trainer, in case somebody is looking for  an internationally successful sheepdog triallist to invite for a clinic!

This is Eryri Jaff:

DSC03838DSC03818  DSC03832   DSC03851  DSC03854

We had great weather for the fotos, but on the last day, when I wanted to do some videos, everything was swallowed up by a thick fog. So this was the best video I could do of the L’s dad Eryri Jaff:

And here are the L’s, that had come for the training:

Lightspeed Limited Edition, strong, stylish and full of power

DSC03737DSC036671526778_10202863890627890_899940119_n 1557620_10202863891587914_1926108928_n

Little Lotus Leaf, with her strong personality and bossy ideas:

Lightspeed Living Legend, who is just a little Ferrari on the sheep field!

Easy going Lightspeed Lifestyle, who shows lovely moves, listens well and is nice to the sheep.

DSC03798 DSC03956

And the tiny but powerfull Lightspeed Love Affair

Lightspeed Light My Fire and Lightspeed Lionheart could not come to the New Year training, but are training at home.

It was great to have so many dogs from the L-litter there for a really valuable training with Susanne. It is not so often that a doggy family can be reunited so (nearly) complete, with both parents and 5 of 7 pups.

Overall it can be said that the L’s are very keen but obedient, have very nice flanks and abundant power! I am very, very pleased with all of them!

The rare get-together was also used for a family day at the vet’s, where Lightspeed Limited Edition, Lotus Leaf, Living Legend and Lifestyle, as well as LS Kassiopeia, Kensington and Keltic were x-rayed free of HD, ED and OCD!

In the meantime also Love Affair and  Lionheart were x-rayed (free from HD and ED), Lightspeed Koh-i-Noor in Switzerland (free from HD, ED and OCD)

Our thanks to our puppy owners for all the work and time they put into the development of their Lightspeeds!! We are very happy for the excellent training progress and health results!
